Calhoun and Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce Hosting Welding Camp for Girls!

Calhoun Community College, in partnership with the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce, is excited to announce the return of its annual SWeETy Camp (Summer Welding and Electrical Technology Camp) for girls entering grades 9 through 12. This hands-on, skill-building event will be held July 7–10 on Calhoun’s Decatur campus.

Now in its 16th year, SWeETy Camp empowers young women by introducing them to high-demand careers in welding, electrical technology, and this year, additive manufacturing. Students will work on instructor-led projects, enjoy industry-sponsored lunches, and hear from successful women working in the manufacturing field.

Camp Highlights:

  • Students will weld, wire, and paint a lamp to take home
  • Learn about 3D modeling
  • Daily project-based learning from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Opportunity to meet and interview local students, instructors, and business leaders
The camp is limited to 30 participants and costs $25, but scholarships are available through the Decatur Chamber to make it free for eligible students.

Media is encouraged to attend and will have the most visual opportunities for video and photography daily between 8:30 a.m. and noon, and 1:30 to 3 p.m. All media inquiries should be directed to Calhoun’s Public Relations team at 256-306-2560 or 256-306-2965.
